Great read. Interesting to me to put your message into a perspective of a collective rather than necessarily individuals--like a balancing act of an entire society’s or culture’s ego. Certainly it would be easy to think of collectives with egos that were overwhelmed by rationalism, brutality, etc.

Really looking forward to the piece on ego inflation. Something I read once that was very interesting was the observation that the founders of religions have all been massively ego inflated. They could probably get away with it (though did Jesus get away with it?) back in those times because people were more comfortable with hierarchy, and so were not triggered by someone claiming to be special as bluntly as they did.

Excellent article! BTW, think there’s a typo:

Daedalus, being a great inventor, created two pairs of wings that would allow him and his sign (son ?) to escape Crete and fly back to mainland Greece.
